The starter's pistol was fired back in May when g8wave, in partnership with NatMag's Runner's World magazine, set the pace for a successful SMS competition that ran up to the end of August.

The promotion:

The marathon is one of the biggest and best in the world, with over 90,000 applicants each year. Its amazing route, with over 2 million spectators lining the course, weaves through the famous boroughs of Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Manhattan.

Readers were simply asked to text in with the trigger and their name - all for the cost of a standard rate text.

The result:
This proved to be a highly successful competition with over 2,000 Runners' World readers sending in an entry.
