g8wave's mobile muscle gives Men's
Health a boost!
In late 2007, popular National magazine title Men's Health
teamed up with g8wave to promote their biggest ever giveaway, with
over £6000 worth of goodies for readers to get their hands on.
Up for grabs was a selection of fantastic prizes advertised on a glossy
double page spread:
- Ten Juicers worth £99 each
- Two gym memberships worth £500
- Twelve Motorola headphones worth £69.99 each
- A luxury spa break for two worth £1,000
- Eight Ben Sherman jackets worth £129 each
- Three sets of golf clubs worth £350 each.
Using g8wave's flexible, robust in-house SMS infrastructure, readers
texted in to try and win whichever prize took their fancy. Readers
were allowed multiple entries to any of the prize offers, each time
leaving their full name, address and postcode. All data was automatically
segmented into UK regions by postcode, enhancing the quality of the
database and allowing for further niche marketing opportunities dependent
on the region and reader-interest levels for that particular prize.
Impressive Results:
With so many different prizes on offer and with so many different
variants to text entry available, the operation was implemented swiftly
and assuredly by g8wave's experienced and skilled management
and technical team. Literally thousands of entries generated a unique
database from 25% of respondents - an extraordinarily high amount.
The SMS route of entry gleaned a new database of potential subscribers
which doubled Men's Health's like-for-like subscription
rates at the same point the previous year. This contributed to a handsome
19% conversion rate (almost double the normal expectation) from telemarketing
once the month-long competition had ended.
"This was a good campaign for us" said a delighted Sharon
Douglas, Group Circulation and Marketing Director.
This has now led
to examining other opportunities across their range of titles.

very healthy indeed!
